Theo Venter is an inspirational keynote speaker, workplace safety advocate, author and cultural change facilitator who helps organisations transform the way their people think about safety, accountability and the decisions they make every day.
His message isn’t built from theory.
It’s built from one decision that nearly cost him his life.
.
If you have a pulse, you have a purpose.
22,000 volts. 1,200 amps.
While working as a live power linesman in Australia, Theo found himself 11 metres above the ground, surrounded by 22,000 volts.
Then came a decision.
A choice between doing what was safe and doing what was convenient.
What happened next changed Theo’s life forever.
An electrical arc exposed him to an unimaginable force. He suffered catastrophic injuries, spent weeks fighting for his life and faced a long physical and emotional recovery.
Theo survived. But the accident left him with a question that would ultimately shape his life’s work:
Why do good people, who know the risks, still make decisions that can change everything?
Today, that question sits at the heart of Theo’s work with organisations around the world.
FROM SURVIVOR TO GLOBAL SPEAKER
Theo doesn’t stand on stage and tell people to “be safer”.
He makes them understand why people take shortcuts in the first place.
Drawing on his own experience, years of speaking to workforces and involvement in workplace incident investigations, Theo explores the very human behaviours behind unsafe decisions.
The pressure to get the job done.
The shortcut we’ve taken a hundred times before.
The assumption that “it’ll be right.”
The convenient option.
Through powerful storytelling, humour and confronting honesty, Theo challenges audiences to recognise those moments – and make a different choice.
Because sometimes, one decision can change everything.
Creating a culture where safety becomes personal, not procedural.
Helping people take ownership of their decisions and their impact on others.
Understanding why we choose the convenient option - even when we know better.
Moving safety beyond policies and procedures to create sustainable behavioural change.
A powerful perspective on surviving, rebuilding and finding purpose after adversity.
Connecting everyday decisions to the people, purpose and reasons that matter most.
Theo’s experiences have shaped more than a keynote.
They’ve become the foundation for books, programs and practical frameworks designed to help people recognise the choices they make – and understand the consequences those choices can have.
Co-authored with Ken Roberts, Get Real and Convenience Kills explore choices, accountability and the everyday behaviours that influence our lives and workplaces.

One story. One decision. A message they won't forget.
Whether you’re planning a workplace safety conference, leadership event, corporate gathering or organisation-wide cultural program, Theo delivers far more than an inspirational story.
He challenges audiences to examine the decisions they make when no one is watching, pressure is mounting and the convenient option feels easier.
They’ll laugh. They’ll be challenged. They’ll think about the people waiting for them at home.
